ESPRIT DE GIRAUD BLANC DE BLANCS (Premier Cru)
Esprit de Giraud Blanc de Blancs

Pleasure dressed in festive finery in Champagne for sharing with friends, Champagne for every occasion.

Composition
Pure Chardonnay fermented in a thermo-regulated vat over whole lees.

Aspect
A fresh aspect, with a beautiful golden yellow colour, touched by light green highlights. Its fine bubbles dance a lively, joyous ballet.
The foam resembles a crystalline crown.

Nose
Preserved citrus fruits, fresh hazelnuts and, above all, the fine fragrances of spring flowers – acacia, mock orange and honeysuckle – offer a magnificent bouquet of great restraint and distinction. Then, its character expands, becoming riper and more exotic, revealing pineapple, lychee, roses and almonds, as well as toasted aromas.
A few minutes later, the terroir emerges, mineral hints of limestone and iodine.

To the palate
In the mouth, the initial impact is very fresh, frank and savoury, without a hint of “bite”, and this is accompanied by an uplifting and “crispy” effervescence. The finish is particularly distinct and mineral (limestone). It has great length, leaving a pleasant sensation that is both acidulous and chalky.

Service
Here, its aromatic finesse becomes delicacy and its rectitude becomes purity; added to this is the lively, exuberant and tender sparkle. A wine best served at 8°C, to drink on its own, with friends, for a festive occasion or to accompany a gastronomic moment. In this case, go for light dishes with fairly firm texture or dry dishes. Salt also poses few problems. This means you could consider grilled fish, shellfish, pastry-based dishes, dry cheeses (goat, parmesan), etc.

COTEAUX CHAMPENOIS BLANC
Coteaux Champenois Blanc

This Coteaux Champenois is a brilliant modern style representative of a still champagne wine. It makes the most of the contribution of wood without losing the freshness and distinction that characterises the region. Maison Giraud thus offers a characteristic and distinguished but nevertheless original wine. A real pleasure to be shared with lovers of champagne wines.

To the eye
The light colour is expressed in pastel shades and demonstrates the wine’s freshness.
The initial nose is aromatic and avoids the austere character of many white Coteaux Champenois. The fruit is elegant (grapefruit skin, fresh almonds) and is accompanied by some beautiful notes that relate to how it is matured (oaky, buttery). The first impression is therefore classic with lovely elegance (white flowers).

Nose
When aerated, its personality increases and the nose becomes more exotic. White peach, melon and apricot provide depth and warmth, while discreet perfumes of yeast and hazelnut presage the future.
Then its chalky character and the citrus notes assert themselves.

On the palate
The attack is lively and sharp on the palate. The wine then reveals itself, fluid and quite warm, with a highly delicate texture. The fat is generously offset by the acid backbone that gives the rhythm. The chalkiness appears in mid-palate and signals the wine’s origins. The slight astringency combines very well with the tannin structure of the wood. Thus the wood, wine and minerality of the terroir are well balanced, which is not easy to achieve in a still champagne wine.
The finale is very pleasing. Lively, long, chalky, it is also extremely consistent and very pure with aromas of oyster shells, yellow flowers and mandarin, followed by aromas of apricot stone and a “smoky” character. The lovely aromatic length prolongs the pleasure for six to eight seconds. The very last impression is slightly salty. It is the discreet but indisputable proof of this wine’s pedigree.

Service
Maison Giraud has produced a typical, distinguished but nevertheless original wine. A real pleasure to be shared with lovers of champagne wines. Best served between 8 and 10°.

FÛT DE CHÊNE 2000
Fût de Chêne 2000

2000 vintage

An early spring heralded a year of mild but dull weather. The grey skies and rain were a permanent feature and from July onwards, the temperature dropped. In spite of that, the 2000 vintage proved to be as bountiful as those of 1998 and 1999 : this was the third successive year of superabundance. However, at 5 p.m on July 14th, a thunderstorm broke : large hailstones whipped up by a storm-force wind were followed by a hailstorm which completely shrouded the vines. On the eve of the harvest, morale was at its lowest ebb.
Today, some people speak of a miracle, since the sun reappeared in the middle of August and the harvest which commenced on September 15th under blue and sunny skies was a pleasant surprise to say the least ! A painstaking selection of the grapes immediately after picking, gave rise to a high-quality wine with a sugar content of 10.3° and 7.5g acidity. The little Pinot grapes of Aÿ, both robust and full-flavoured, had once more lived up to their reputation.
