Phylloxera appeared relatively early in the South West of France, then developed gallopingly in the 1870s. Thus, most of the vineyard was decimated. A few years later, the wine culture of the region gradually recovered, but with different methods that aspired to a breath of modernity. The plot of ”Madeleine“, was replanted one of the first after the phylloxera. These so unique vines, predominantly Tannat, have over time assumed an exceptional character. The terroir, with a clayey-gravelly tendency, thanks to the deep root development of the vines, allows the expression of a structure, a complexity, a roundness and a fruitiness. The intense aromas releases fruity (cherry) and spicy notes. The attack is straightforward, the palate is full, generous. The beautiful balance between density and freshness reflects the strength of this terroir while the tannins, surprisingly fine, reflect the age of these vines. The aromas of ripe fruit are expressed in a silky texture with long finish.
