Fabien Jouves Les Acacias 2019
Wine from Fabien Jouves made over at his stunning vineyard that lies between the limestone clay hillsides of the Cahors and Quercy wine regions. He is renowned worldwide for producing biodynamic wines that really boast the best attributes of their unique terroir. By implementing stellar and planetary rhythms into his farming methods, soil quality is increased hugely. The result is a selection of wines that shine with personality.
Cahors in France is the home of Malbec and certainly Fabien Jouves of Mas del Perie is the king of the region. Fabien Jouves comes from one of the oldest families in Cahors and since 2006 he has founded Mas del Perie winery with the aim of making single vineyard, natural wines based on Malbec and highlighting the many different faces of the variety. His goal is to create natural Malbec wines with the character of Burgundy. It follows the standards of Burgundy in terms of winemaking and aging. Specifically, for Les Acacias, the grapes are harvested by hand, at the appropriate time, followed by 30 days of extraction, and then the wine is fermented in concrete tanks with ambient yeasts. Then it matures for 18 months in oak foudres of 600 liters. It is bottled unfiltered and without any other intervention. The result is his own version of a rich, super-concentrated but at the same time elegant.
Deep violet color and exuberant aromas of sour cherry, berry, plum, cassis and blueberry accompanied by notes of vanilla, tobacco, leather, pepper, eucalyptus, purple flowers and graphite. Impressive mouth, with solid structure, rich body, crisp acidity and robust but lacy tannins.
